About Dr. Hernandez

Dr. Paul R. Hernandez received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2011. Dr. Hernandez joined the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture (Joint appointment in Research, Measurement, and Statistics) at Texas A&M University as an Associate Professor in 2019. Dr. Hernandez teaching graduate courses in measurement, research design, and statistics. His research focuses on the contextual factors, developmental relationships, and motivational processes that support and broaden participation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers – particularly for students from groups historically underrepresented in STEM. Dr. Hernandez has received over $3.5 million in external research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. Dr. Hernandez is on the editorial board of a top-tier journal in Educational Psychology. He has published 17 peer-reviewed journal articles and has been a plenary speaker at the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine workshops on Effective Mentoring in STEM as well as the Understanding Interventions that Broaden Participation in Science Careers Conference.
